Our 3rd conference was again very successful with delegates mainly from the three counties area. The theme was “The death of a child” and presentations were given by a clinical psychologist, deputy head teacher and 2 bereaved parents whose children had died, who talked about their personal experiences.
The conference was a real learning experience for all of us and gave us valuable insight into the effects that the death of a child can have on parents, siblings, other family members and the wider community. It was a very emotional day and the feedback was excellent. We repeated the day for volunteers in February.
The conference for 2006 is going to be held at The Holiday Inn at Markyate, Herts and will be held over 2 days, October 5th and 6th. This is due to many requests for networking opportunities. Day 1 will be entitled “Sustaining and supporting families and caregivers through death, grief and healing” and day 2 “The cost of caring – survival strategies and techniques”. We have some excellent speakers and have already received some international interest.
